Parents and caregivers play a key role in guiding kids and teens on relationships, mental health, sexuality, and values. We all want young people to learn to understand boundaries, consent, and healthy decision-making. Open conversations help them recognize warning signs of abuse and build strong relationships. Yet, many parents feel under-supported in these discussions. A single health class at school covers the biology of “The Birds and the Bees” and parents are expected to handle complex topics like consent, autonomy, and peer pressure without much support. The current technology isn’t even what we grew up with, we don’t want to say the wrong thing, and somehow these conversations always sneak up when we don’t expect them. We know the current solution isn’t enough, but many parents don’t know where to turn.

Our Whole Lives (OWL) at St John’s Chapel UCC

St. John’s Chapel UCC is proud to offer Our Whole Lives (OWL)—a comprehensive age-appropriate sexuality education program. The accurate and inclusive curriculum has been developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ, and is informed by the guidelines of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States. This program helps teens clarify their values, increase their self-esteem, improve communication skills for healthy relationships, and make responsible sexual choices. The classes are led by teams of two certified instructors who have been trained by the national organization. The program is built on a foundation of parental consent, with parents attending a two-part orientation and being fully informed about the curriculum.
